Ministerie: Kabels niet gebroken door schepen

Volgens het Egyptische ministerie van communicatie zijn de kabelbreuken NIET veroorzaakt door schepen, aldus de Khaleej Times:

CAIRO - Damage to undersea Internet cables in the Mediterranean that hit business across the Middle East and South Asia was not caused by ships, Egypt’s communications ministry said on Sunday, ruling out earlier reports.

The transport ministry added that footage recorded by onshore video cameras of the location of the cables showed no maritime traffic in the area when the cables were damaged.

‘The ministry’s maritime transport committee reviewed footage covering the period of 12 hours before and 12 hours after the cables were cut and no ships sailed the area,’ a statement said.

2 Communication Cables in the Mediterranean Are Cut

NY Times meldt:

One cable was damaged near Alexandria, Egypt, and the other in the waters off Marseille, France, telecommunications operators said. The two cables, which are separately managed and operated, were damaged within hours of each other. Damage to undersea cables, while rare, can result from movement of geologic faults or possibly from the dragging anchor of a ship.

Bij een eerder bericht hierover zei ik:

Wat dus betekent dat er geen onafhankelijke media verslag kan doen van gebeurtenissen in het gebied?

Dat lijkt niet volledig het geval te zijn, aangezien er via diverse andere kabels omgeleid wordt.

Maar de Daily Telegraph meldt:

The cable, which lies in the Mediterranean Sea, was "cut", according to officials, leading to widespread distruption of internet and communication services in Egypt and Kuwait, and causing problems with telephone services in the United Arab Emirates. It slowed trading on the Dubai stock exchange, and has had a significant impact on many of the call centres and outsourced offices operating in India.

Verder lijken Israel, Irak, en Libanon niet getroffen door de " storing." De meeste regeringen in het Midden Oosten ook niet, aangezien ze overgestapt zijn op internet via satellietverbindingen.

Maar hoe groot is de kans dat op zo'n grote afstand van elkaar, binnen een etmaal, op twee locaties in de Middelandse Zee meerdere kabels per ongeluk worden kapotgetrokken?

Ik zou sabotage niet te snel uitsluiten, als ik Sherlock zou heten. In ieder geval lijkt het me verstandig om de komende week extra kritisch te zijn op officiele persberichten over gebeurtenissen in het Midden Oosten.

Internet Midden Oosten ligt plat door " kabelbreuk"

In het Midden-Oosten en Centraal-Azië ligt een deel van het internetverkeer plat. Door een breuk in een kabel in de Middellandse Zee zijn er problemen van Egypte tot India. Waarschijnlijk duurt de reparatie van de kabel enkele dagen. NOS

The 'players' at Annapolis are not the right team to achieve those goals, instead we have murderers, liars, sellouts.... everyone but true representatives of both the Israeli and Palestinian people, as well as a true representative of the American people.

"Syria says defenses opened fire on Israeli aircraft"

Syria claims IAF aircraft 'broke sound barrier and dropped ammunition' over open areas, Syrian military says its air defense units 'confronted' aircraft. IDF: Looking into report

The Israelis broke the sound barrier and ''dropped ammunition'' over deserted areas of northern Syria overnight, the spokesman was quoted as saying by the official Syrian Arab News Agency.

The Syrians did not say the aircraft struck targets, and it was not clear what the spokesman meant by dropping ammunition. Warplanes sometimes drop extra fuel tanks to make the aircraft lighter and easier to maneuver.

''We warn the Israeli enemy government against this flagrant aggressive act, and retain the right to respond in an appropriate way,'' the Syrian spokesman said, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.
