Wereld Sociaal Forum van start

Gisteren is in Bélèm, Brazilië, het World Social Forum van start gegaan. Activisten, regeringsleiders en politici uit verschillende landen vergaderen daar over de mogelijkheden om tot een eerlijker, rechtvaardiger, socialer en vrediger wereld te komen.

Het WSF is daarmee een tegenhanger van het World Economic Forum, dat in Davos wordt gehouden.

Eén van de belangrijkste onderwerpen is natuurlijk de economische crisis, en de mogelijke oplossingen daarvoor.

Volgens Willem Middelkoop is de welvaart van de laatste 20 jaar niet gecreërd, maar geleend. Hierdoor is een enorme schuldenberg ontstaan. We beleven nu de eerste fase van het leeglopen van de kredietluchtbel, aldus Willem Middelkoop.

Middelkoop stelt dat de kans groot is dat we in een serieuze recessie terecht komen. De VS hebben tien jaar geprobeerd om een recessie voor zich uit te schuiven. Hij verwacht geen systeemcrisis binnen 1 à 2 jaar, het zal volgens hem een langdurig proces worden dat 5 à 10 jaar kan duren.

New World Order of gewoon kapitalisme?

Is het mogelijk dat wij allemaal handig misbruikt worden en dat de meeste macht inderdaad bij slechts een paar machtige mensen, bedrijven of families ligt? Maar hoe zou dat dan kunnen werken?
