Iranian Jews slam emigrant stunt

(CNN) -- -- The well-publicized landing of 40 Iranian Jews in Israel on Tuesday spurred glee among some Israelis and the immigrants themselves and drew public scorn from a surprising quarter in Iran -- two officials from its centuries-old Jewish community. [..]

But the account of the mass immigration was vehemently disputed among Jewish officials in Tehran who defend Jewish life there.

The man representing Iranian Jews in Iran's parliament on Wednesday disputed the notion of an organized immigration of Iranian Jews to Israel, saying he would have known about such a development.

Iranian MP Morris Motamed told CNN that he and Ciamak Morehsadegh, the director of the Tehran Jewish Community, had issued a statement condemning the spread of false news about an evangelical organization facilitating the immigration of 40 Iranian Jews to Israel.

Iranian Jews can travel anywhere they want, anytime they want, but like other Iranians they are not allowed to go to Israel, Motamed said.

Om aan landbouw te doen is er water nodig. En dat is er niet in de Palestijnse gebieden. Of beter: dat is er niet meer. Sinds de Israëlische waterwet van 1959 heeft Israël de controle over al het water van de streek. Een kleine vergelijking: een Israëli gebruikt per jaar evenveel water als vier Palestijnen. 90 % van de Palestijnse boeren is aangewezen op regenwater om hun akkers te irrigeren en een eigen waterbron aanboren is voor Palestijnen verboden. Het drinkwater in de Palestijnse gebieden wordt steeds schaarser. Voor Israël is de controle over het water cruciaal om de Palestijnse ontwikkeling te vertragen en te verstoren en om de afhankelijkheid van Palestina te vergroten.

En het is niet alleen voor water dat de Palestijnen afhangen van hun bezetters. Ook de toelevering van gas, electriciteit, petroleum en basisvoedsel gebeurt door Israël. Bovendien wordt het overgrote deel van de Palestijnse landbouwproducten geëxporteerd naar Israël, dat een erg lage prijs biedt voor de goederen.

De ontwikkeling van de Palestijnse samenleving gaat door dit alles niet vooruit, maar achteruit.

Bot mocht waarheid niet spreken van Balkenende

Franse politie ondervraagt journalist over 9/11

De man publiceerde op 17 april 2007 delen van geheime documenten van de Franse buitenlandse inlichtingendienst. Daarin stond informatie over terrorisme en over de aanslagen van 11 september 2001 in New York.

Uit de documenten moet blijken dat de Franse inlichtingendiensten Amerikaanse collega's al in januari 2001 waarschuwden dat Al Qaeda van plan was een Amerikaans lijnvliegtuig te kapen.

POLITICS-US: Peace Group Barred From Florida Schools

TAMPA, Florida, Dec 4 (IPS) - Public school districts in two Florida counties are refusing to allow members of a peace organisation to counter the presence of military recruiters by talking with high school students about options other than joining the service, according to a spokesperson for the group.

"They (the Manatee and Sarasota County School Districts) are saying that we can't go on their campuses because we aren't offering any sort of information on post-secondary opportunities," said Don Thompson, co-chairman of the Coalition of Concerned Patriots (CCP), a Florida-based peace group. "But that's an excuse because we tell the students that the Job Corps and the Peace Corps are possible opportunities for jobs."

"Some of the military recruiters (who visit students on high school campuses) aren't telling the truth about the ways of the military. We don't question the existence of the military; we question the duplicity of military recruiters," Thompson, a retired United Methodist minister, told IPS.

Under President George W. Bush's "No Child Left Behind" law, signed in 2002, public high schools must give military recruiters access to students, including their names, addresses and telephone numbers.

Parents and students can "opt out" of this requirement by filling out a form, but many are apparently unaware that they have the right to do so.

Nu de nucleaire zaak tegen Iran op een "mislukking" is uitgelopen voor de warmongers, kan het geen kwaad om even Sarkozy's Mossad-connectie in herinnering te brengen. Alsmede de uitlatingen van de Italiaanse ex-president Cossiga over de betrokkenheid van de Mossad bij 9/11.

LA Times haalt fors uit naar "corrupt" CNN

Terwijl 96% van de Amerikanen nauwelijks interesse heeft in de immigratie"problematiek", maakte CNN er een sleutelonderwerp van in het CNN/YouTube-debat.

Door werkelijk belangrijke zaken, zoals de Irak-oorlog, naar de achtergrond te verdrijven, speelde de zender een dubieuze, corrupte rol in het politieke debat, in de aanloop naar de Amerikaanse presidentsverkiezingen. Dit stelt politiek commentator Tim Rutten, in de LA Times.

Corruption is a strong word. But consider these facts: The gimmick behind Wednesday's debate was that the questions would be selected from those that ordinary Americans submitted to the video sharing Internet website YouTube, which is owned by Google. According to CNN, its staff culled through 5,000 submissions to select the handful that were put to the candidates. That process essentially puts the lie to the vox populi aura the association with YouTube was meant to create. When producers exercise that level of selectivity, the questions -- whoever initially formulated and recorded them -- actually are theirs.

That's where things begin to get troubling, because CNN chose to devote the first 35 minutes of this critical debate to a single issue -- immigration. Now, if that leaves you scratching your head, it's probably because you're included in the 96% of Americans who do not think immigration is the most important issue confronting this country. We've got a pretty good fix concerning what's on the American mind right now, because the nonpartisan and highly reliable Pew Center has been regularly polling people since January on the issues that matter most to them. In fact, the center's most recent survey was conducted in the days leading up to Wednesday's debate.
