Het westen moet zich klaarmaken voor het uitvoeren van een preventieve atoomaanval, ‘om een halt toe te roepen aan de «imminente verspreiding» van kernwapens en andere massavernietigingswapens’, aldus is te lezen in het manifest «voor een nieuwe NAVO» dat werd opgesteld door vijf hoge NAVO functionarissen, waaronder de voormalige Nederlandse stafchef generaal Henk van den Breemen.

Nou is het mij niet duidelijk in hoeverre deze doctrine ook daadwerkelijk doorgedrongen is in de NAVO-top, maar dat het idee alleen al geopperd wordt maakt me misselijk, vooral bij het idee dat er in Washington zeker wel haviken rondlopen die dit maar wat graag zouden doordrukken.

Hallooo! First strike nuclear option...? Eén van meerdere goede redenen voor bijvoorbeeld de SP om gewoon weer botweg en duidelijk "Nederland uit de Navo" na te streven.

US, Israel refuse to cooperate with inquest into Syria strike

UN nuclear watchdog has no evidence Syria had nuclear facility

The International Atomic Energy Agency - the United Nations nuclear watchdog - has not been able to conduct an investigation into the events surrounding the Sept. 6 Israeli bombing of a Syrian military installation because neither the Bush administration nor Israel are cooperating.

A diplomatic source close to the Vienna based IAEA told Raw Story that both the United States and Israel have been approached by the organization requesting supporting evidence of a nuclear reactor which media sources have cited, based on anonymous sources in both governments, as the reason for the Israeli strike.

Report: Cheney may have mulled pushing Israel to hit Iran

Newsweek Magazine reported Sunday that Vice President Richard Cheney may have considered a plan for Israeli missile strikes against an Iranian nuclear site in an effort to draw a military response from Iran, which could in turn spark a U.S. offensive against targets in the Islamic Republic.

Citing two unnamed sources the magazine called knowledgeable, the magazine quoted David Wurmser, until last month Cheney's Middle East advisor, as having told a small group of people that "Cheney had been mulling the idea of pushing for limited Israeli missile strikes against the Iranian nuclear site at Natanz - and perhaps other sites - in order to provoke Tehran into lashing out."

According to the report, "The Iranian reaction would then give Washington a pretext to launch strikes against military and nuclear targets in Iran."

Blackwater mag weer "aan de slag" in Irak

Het omstreden beveiligingsbedrijf Blackwater is vandaag weer aan het werk gegaan in Irak. Premier al-Maliki heeft daartegen geprotesteerd bij de VS.

Ze staan in feite boven de wet, omdat de VS immuniteit verleent.

Israël hoofdverantwoordelijk voor burgerslachtoffers Libanon

Volgens een rapport van mensenrechtenorganisatie Human Rights Watch is Israël, niet Hezbollah, hoofdverantwoordelijk voor de burgerslachtoffers in Libanon, tijdens de zomeroorlog in 2006. HRW deed onderzoek naar de omstandigheden rond de dood van 510 burgers en 51 Hezbollah-stijders.

Ook de claims over het gebruik van "menselijke schilden" door Hezbollah worden naar het rijk der fabelen verwezen.

Biometrie: Wir haben es gewusst

Het nieuwe paspoort is niet alleen onveilig, ook de foto-eisen zorgen voor veel ongemak. Vanaf de eerste dag dat het biometrisch paspoort in Nederland een feit was, werden pasfoto's massaal afgekeurd. De strenge eisen voor de Fotomatrix Model 2006 in kleur, zoals het gelaat recht van voren, oren zichtbaar, geen glimmertjes in brillenglazen en vooral niet glimlachen (want dat biedt de beste mogelijkheid voor biometrische gezichtsherkenningscamera's), waren in de praktijk nauwelijks haalbaar. Ook bleek de gezichtsherkenning vanaf de foto tegenvallende resultaten op te leveren.

Inmiddels heeft staatssecretaris Schouten Bijleveld aangekondigd dat de foto in de toekomst aan de balie van het gemeentehuis zal worden gemaakt. De staatssecretaris wil ons hiermee een gang naar de fotograaf besparen want een foto gelijk bij aanvraag van een nieuw paspoort is toch veel makkelijker?

Deze afleidingsmanoeuvre ligt er echter te dik bovenop. De overheid wil zelf over de pasfoto's (lees gelaatsscans) beschikken. Het rechtstreeks scannen en digitaliseren van het gezicht, zonder tussenkomst van een papieren pasfoto, was men al veel eerder van plan maar was binnen de geplande termijn niet haalbaar. Als de foto of gelaatsscan aan de gemeentebalie wordt gemaakt, wordt deze doorgestuurd naar SDU Identification maar is het ook mogelijk om in een gemeentelijke database te worden opgeslagen.

Do We Have the Courage to Stop War with Iran?

Why do I feel like the proverbial skunk at a Labor Day picnic? Sorry; but I thought you might want to know that this time next year there will probably be more skunks than we can handle. I fear our country is likely to be at war with Iran-and with the thousands of real terrorists Iran can field around the globe.

It is going to happen, folks, unless we put our lawn chairs away on Tuesday, take part in some serious grass-roots organizing, and take action to prevent a wider war-while we still can.

President George W. Bush's speech Tuesday lays out the Bush/Cheney plan to attack Iran and how the intelligence is being "fixed around the policy," as was the case before the attack on Iraq.
